Most of Twitter thought everything about the show was sexy – from the string rendition of Taylor Swift’s ‘Wildest Dreams’, to the costumes, with one user saying, “The Duke of Hastings, making glove removal sexy AF since 1813.” For many, the show single-handedly saved Christmas 2020 after coronavirus put a dampener on festivities.

Normal People fans applauded the show’s strong female leads, and, just as Connell’s now-infamous chain stole focus, a scene where the Duke licks a spoon became so talked about that it too has its own Instagram account, Others rewatched Sex Education – desperate for more British banging after binge-watching Bridgerton.

‘Regency Horn’ officially became a thing, and fans flocked to Twitter to celebrate the abundant sex scenes, predominantly between the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), and her love interest, the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page). When Netflix released Bridgerton on Christmas Day, the world went wild for the ‘raunchy’ Regency-era period drama based on the best-selling books by Julia Quinn.
